Bitcoin Retail Investors are Back in Action in 2026

One man’s capitulation is another’s opportunity: wallets holding 0.01 BTC continue to surge.

Following a volatile start to the year, on-chain data reveals a fascinating trend: retail investors are seizing price corrections as an accumulation window. While Bitcoin was trading at $88,728 on January 1, 2026, the recent dip to $68,495 recorded this March 9 has triggered a spike in the number of addresses holding over 0.01 BTC. This metric has now reached 12,696,856, a signal many analysts interpret as a bullish prelude.

The Return of the “Mini-Stackers”

The structural makeup of the cryptocurrency market is shifting. Although we are still below the all-time high of address counts recorded on December 31, 2023—when 12,765,721 wallets held at least 0.01 BTC at a price of $42,321—the current trend shows a clear recovery. Since the beginning of this year, the count has grown from 12,550,351 addresses to nearly 12.7 million (+1.6%). This proves that “buy the dip” sentiment remains strong despite the significant retreat from historical price highs.

A Historically Bullish Signal

The current behavior of Bitcoin retail investors mirrors previous cycles. In 2023, a massive accumulation phase preceded an unprecedented institutional rally. Notably, during the price peak on July 14, 2025, when Bitcoin hit $119,834, the number of these addresses dropped to a low of 12,331,494. This suggests that smaller investors typically take profits at the top and step back in to accumulate when the market cools down.

Outlook for the End of Q1

The Bitcoin network continues to demonstrate undeniable technical strength. The fact that address counts are rising while the price sits at $68,495 indicates that the community’s perceived value of the asset remains high. If this retail upward trend persists, we may be looking at the market floor necessary to push back toward the six-figure zone.
