Cardano Simplifies Governance and Pool Management: New SPOS Scripts Revolutionize Operations with Ledger

The ecosystem takes a decisive leap toward frictionless decentralization for its operators.

Developer Martin Lang (ATADA Pool) launched a crucial update for StakePool Operator Scripts (SPOS) on the Cardano testnet. This enhancement adds full compatibility with LedgerApp v8, HW-CLI 1.20, and Cardano-Signer v1.35, allowing stake pool operators (SPOs) to perform bulk governance votes and manage network infrastructure directly from their hardware wallets with higher security and smoother execution.

Less Technical Red Tape, More Voting Power

Integrating support for LedgerApp v8 introduces an “unrestricted” signing mode, a feature designed to maximize efficiency in Cardano’s governance era. Through this mechanism, operators can now simultaneously sign multiple governance actions using their DRep key (24b). This update removes the bottleneck of approving each decision individually, enabling much more agile decentralized decision-making.

Financial Flexibility and Direct Fund Management

The toolset also introduces a functional leap in the interaction between cold and hot keys:

Cross-funding: Operators can fund DRep operations via CLI wallets while signing from the safety of a Ledger, or vice versa, paying for CLI-Key initiated operations directly with a Ledger.

Direct pool operations: SPOs no longer need complex workarounds; they can register or update a stake pool using their payment and pool keys secured directly inside the hardware wallet.

Superior error diagnostics: Error messaging improved across more than 15 transaction and certification scripts (covering everything from reward claims to token minting and burning).

This software optimization marks an essential operational milestone. As on-chain governance takes full control of the ecosystem, empowering validators with robust tools to operate without exposing their private keys forms the foundation for keeping the network secure and decentralized over the long haul.
